Transnational threats will continue to be a global concern in the coming years. Cross border migration, illicit trafficking and Counter-Terrorism will continue to threaten national security. The amount of money involved in illicit trafficking of drugs alone gives these criminals the means and resources to defeat static low-end detection methods. Current technologies deployed along borders continue to be insufficient. A DHS Inspector General Report found that many of the current sensors had problems with very high False Alarm Rate and low probability of detecting people illegally crossing the border. Moreover, communication challenges of bandwidth, interference and system integration need to be addressed. The best sensors will be of little value if they cannot communicate.
Large-scale ambitious acquisition efforts have failed to adequately address border protection. The failure of such efforts is not due to lack of resources or a willingness to succeed. Innovative Algorithms believes an iterative approach to developing sensors to stay ahead of the threat is required for not just more rapid development, but for program risk reduction.
Our Team believes in a total solution in order to provide innovative Homeland Security systems. Much as defense systems are driven by SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power and Costs), ruggedization and other requirements, Homeland Security has unique requirements of their own. Communications, autonomy, battery life, environmental conditions and operational employment drive sensor development in a slightly different direction from defense requirements. Innovative Algorithms is sensitive to these requirements and has developed our sensor systems to meet and exceed these requirements.
Algorithms development for detection of various targets (and non-targets) is important to ensure limited border patrol assets do not chase false alarms. Innovative Algorithms sensors are developed and tested in the border areas where migrants traverse and environmental conditions vary.
Communication requirements of border sensor systems are a difficult challenge. Power requirements, bandwidth limitations, interference, scalability and integration are just a few of the challenges that must be overcome. Innovative Algorithms has closely integrated an ultra-low power and narrow band system that overcomes these challenges. Newer advanced transceiver technology coupled with experienced tradecraft in antenna design give IA systems an advantage over other “one size fits all” communication systems.
Innovative Algorithms is different from other providers of sensors for Homeland Security:
• Newer advanced signal processing hardware with more sophisticated algorithms
• Agile ability to update algorithms and respond to new conditions or threats
• Lower power consumption and autonomy – longest life in class
• Longest detection range/lowest False Alarm Rate
• New innovative communication system
o Ultra-low power consumption
o Innovative narrow band significantly reduces interference
